warning image I'm a natural storyteller, so I might tell you a little bit more than you'd expect.

Olu's search for a career

Throughout history, one of the few things that has remained constant is our endless search for something more. To this end, countless works of literature have explored our search for meaning, happiness, excellence and other aspirations we believe will give our lives purpose. Everything we are today, and all we have achieved as humans, is the result of one search or another.

And I am no different from Victor Frankl or any of the modern day searchers! After years of searching and exploring various career and educational paths, I discovered what I both love and excel at: teaching. Specifically, teaching people what they're curious about—whether it's a new tool, a technical how-to guide, or even the simplest everyday topics.

At first glance, this may seem like a straightforward skill, but think back to the teacher whose confusing explanations made you despise a subject so much that you struggled and perhaps thought formal education wasn't for you. Or remember that complex tool you couldn't wrap your head around, leading you to give up entirely. We've all groaned in frustration over an IKEA manual!

Teaching, explaining, and breaking down complex or mundane ideas into something clear and understandable is a rare gift.

Olu's career

I'm Olufunke, though friends and colleagues often call me Olu or Moerayo. I live in the United Kingdom. My journey began in education as a teacher, then shifted both academically and professionally into software engineering. Eventually, I found myself as a technical writer and developer advocate—a role that beautifully blends my interest for teaching and technology.

In my search for a fulfilling career that combines what I love, what I'm good at, and what I want to do, I found success!

Olu's work

As a Technical writer, I work the role of a user(customer) advocate by ensuring that users of varying competency level can navigate tools with confidence. These customers are not primarily developers, they range from business managers, sales reps and everyone with little to no technical knowledge who just need the right amount of information to get the work done.

As a developer advocate, my audience are primaily developers - be it a code newbie or a "senior dev". My role is to ensure the documentation, examples, sandboxes and other instructioanl materials are available and updated for the developers to leverage the platforms.

In my experience, advocating for users and developers, I have collaborated with companies like Novu, Hygraph, Appwrite, Cloudinary, and Flutterwave. My collaborations with these organisations do not just end with my contract or tenure with them - I go on to use the companies tech in my day-today activities. For instance, the assets on this website are managed with Cloudinary, and the database is powered by Xata—two organizations I've had the privilege of working with.

Talk about an advocate, advocating for themselves also.

Why hire Olu?

I often say: what good are all the engineering efforts behind your project if no one knows how to use them effectively? As a former software developer, I know the frustation related to user adoption/interests which are mostly tied to low efforts in making user onboarding easier with respect to advocating efforts towards users and developers. That's where I come in—bridging the gap between technology and the people who need to understand it.

With my background as both a software engineer and a technical writer, I bring a unique perspective. I can help you communicate your tool's true value, whether you're reaching developers, end users, stakeholders or other target audience.

And that is why you need me on your team!

What else do I write about?

I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Before venturing into technical writing, I had already been writing fiction and non-fiction.

If you’re curious to see more of my work, here are two places you can check out:

  • On my WordPress blog, I share personal stories—little glimpses into my life, the moments and experiences that have shaped me. It’s a mix of joy, sorrow, and everything that makes me who I am.
  • I also write on Substack, where you’ll find both fiction and non-fiction. The concept behind this blog is still evolving, but I share stories inspired by acquaintances, friends, and life's darker moments. These stories aren't always about me but explore the essence of life itself.

I hope to continue writing so that, even years after I’m gone, there will be memories of the life I lived for those who never had the chance to know me.

Let's work together
